TOBY THE BENGAL Toby entered my life aged 14 weeks and he proved to be an extremely strong character. I have owned cats of different breeds for many years but never one quite like Toby. He is very demanding and as a kitten would regularly grab hold of the legs of anyone from whom he wanted attention. If he was feeling ignored he would lie in wait and literally ambush anyone who passed by, grabbing them and hauling himself up their legs. Fortunately he usually did this to males who were ...

Some people say they are exclusively "cat people," meaning they
only want to have a cat as a pet. That doesn't mean that just
any cat will be the right companion. When choosing a cat to be
your companion, be certain to make the choice that will work
best for both you and the animal.
An athletic, highly energetic cat is fun to watch, but a cat can
be a challenge to care for. A shy, sensitive cat probably
wouldn't thrive in a home with lots of hullabaloo. The first
step to choosing a cat is ...

The goal in developing the domestic Bengal cat breed was to preserve a strong physical resemblance to its beautiful wild ancestor and at the same time the new domestic breed was designed to be a pleasant and trustworthy family companion. Therefore, the conformation of the Bengal is definitely reminiscent of its ancestorsThe breed is now most popular registered breed but it is still not fully recognized by some modern cat fancies. This is somewhat ironic considering all modern Cat ...

The Oriental Shorthair cat can be an extraordinarily devoted and
loving companion. More than anything else, they want a person,
or family, to whom they can give their wholehearted devotion.
The Oriental Shorthair is a solid colored Siamese. From the
beginning, breeders of pure Siamese saw the occasional solid
colored kitten, frequently a deep seal brown. In the beginning,
no one was very interested in them. A few of them were imported
to the U.S., and became the foundation of the beautiful ...

Cat show veterans are required to race their ideal characteristics. The average pet owner selects a pet and May did not realize the complexity of different races. The exotic and somewhat mysterious Siamese cat hails from the country of Thailand. They had always been a popular breed of cats, some even residing in royal palaces. Siamese cats, in the past, were trusted to protect royal palaces and monasteries from evil spirits. These cats were also thought of as bringing good fortune to their owners as well.During the year of 1884, the very first Siamese cats began to make their way to England, when they were given as gifts to a British general. ...

Its Origin Clouded In Intrigue And ControversyThe fact that this breed of cat has beautiful blue eyes and highly recognizable color point coat is no accident or result of evolution. If we believe the breeder, Ann Baker, the original Ragdoll cats were the consequence of a government experiment back in the 1960's. It seems that one of her neighbor's cats named Josephine, got into an accident involving a car, and for some reason was taken to a laboratory at the University of California. There ...

Without a doubt, pets are very popular among first-world countries today. In many western countries, cats are actually the most-owned pet, even more than dogs, fish, or birds. Cats are affectionate but less demanding than dogs, don't have to be exercised daily, can use litter-boxes instead of having to be let outside. Many folks feel that felines have a certain "aura" of cleverness and mystique.
But can cats actually have a beneficial effect on a person's health? Research shows that having a ...

When I was a child, I always had a cat. Back then, a cat was replaceable to most people, and if one got run over, killed by the neighbor's dog, poisoned, or just disappeared, there was always another cat to be found.Fortunately, attitudes have changed over time. These days many people recognize that animals deserve to be treated more humanely and not as a throw away pet.Certainly, I've gotten wiser as I've gotten older, and my cats have benefited from that.So I decided to take all the tips, ...

Of course they do, they talk to each other and they talk to you.. You just have to learn to be a good listener. It's sort of like a dog's training class, the trainer isn't training the dog, he's training you. For instance, my oldest cat, an eight and a half year old Ragdoll, is a whiner. I often ask her if she wants whine with dinner. But, apparently, her whining has gotten her what she wants and she's not about to change. So, when she comes into my bedroom at 5:30 or 6:00 in the ...

Anyone wanting a new kitten should be a cat lover. Let's face
it, folks, cats are just different from dogs. Cats do not
usually perform any special tricks, and they certainly do not
guard your possessions while you are away. In fact, the only
thing you can be guaranteed of by having a cat is that a mouse
won't last long if they creep into your home.
Cats are loved by many because of their independence. Cats have
a life, so to speak. Most cats do not follow you around the home
with their tongues ...

Flea control can be a very hard thing to do especially if you
live in areas where fleas are largely populated. Weather has a
lot to do with fleas and trying to keep them outdoors and off of
your pets can be very changeling.
You can try many of the products available to rid your pets of
fleas and then find that you still have the problem. Fleas will
lay their eggs in your carpet and on furniture and bedding that
your pet happens to lie on.
The first step in flea control is to rid your pet of ...

All cats are unique in many ways in the animal world. The entire species from big cats to the most docile of domestic cats have several common traits. It is believed that the cat species evolved from a weasel type of animal over 40 million years ago. To put that into perspective, what many believe to be the first real human ancestors (homo erectus) evolved about 1.8 million years ago.
The first real record of cats being domesticated dates back to early Egyptians in the Upper Egypt area of the ...

By their very nature, cats are free-ranging animals. Mature males especially, are wanderers. Before the concept of selective breeding about 150 years ago, this wanderlust in domestic cats provided plenty of opportunity for the intermingling of genes. If there were teo distinct races of cat in any region, they blended over a period of time, so we cannot be sure of the origin of many of our modern domestic breeds.
Nevertheless, studies of the skeletal structure, body type and hair length of ...

Diabetes is cats is a relatively common problem. The condition occurs when insulin fails to balance levels of glucose. Obese and older cats have an increased risk of developing diabetes, although it can affect cats of any age or breed.CauseCat diabetes occurs because either the body doesn't use produced insulin as it should or because the body isn't producing enough insulin to begin with. There is no known reason why this happens, although certain conditions can increase the risk of ...

Cats make good house pets as they are very flexible in nature and can adjust according to your home environment. Cats are smart animals and hence can observe and learn things but some extra training can do a lot of good. You can easily teach your cat to do things like opening the door using knobs with ease. Also cats use different vocalizations and different types of body languages to communicate to the owners. Some of the different types of vocalizations include:

While the most widely accepted notion of a pet is a dog, cats are not far behind, and in fact for a number of reasons, cats are actually more commonly kept as pets than dogs.
Just as there are many breeds of dog, there are also several breeds of cats, the better known breeds are Siamese and Persian. While generally regarded as being "low-maintenance" relative to dogs, having a cat for a pet is also quite a responsibility.
Like dogs, cats need to be fed, vaccinated, neutered, treated when ...

Can kittens (and cats) get hiccups?
The answer to that question is -- yes.
After I rescued four two-week-old kittens who were orphaned when
their mother was killed, I became the "momma cat" and started
feeding them kitten formula with a syringe.
When I took the kittens to the vet clinic for a checkup, the vet
asked me if they had gotten hiccups yet.
At that point, they had never shown any signs of it.
"No, they haven't had hiccups," I said.
"They will," the vet said with a smile. "It happens ...
